Most hotels and certain cafes will offer free wifi. However if you’re out and about there’s no guarantee you will be able to find wifi, this is especially true the further outside of Tashkent you travel. For this reason we recommend travelers consider getting a phone plan for the duration of their stay.
Your phone carrier may provide affordable international travel phone plans that can cover your usage during your tour. Alternatively, it is quite inexpensive to purchase a physical SIM card in Uzbekistan or to purchase an eSIM via online stores like MobiMatter or Holafly. Your phone must be unlocked if you decide to purchase either type of SIM card. Contact your phone provider to find out the status of your phone.
Uzbekistan uses type C and type F plugs 220 voltage. Adaptors are typically easy to find online or in stores that sell travel products. If the appliances you use are not 220v/50Hz, you’ll need to make sure that it is either dual voltage, meaning it can work with both 110v and 220v, or look into getting appliances that will work with the 220v/50Hz.
The most popular times to visit Uzbekistan are Spring (mid-April to early June) and Autumn (mid-September to mid-November), when the temperatures are enjoyable and not excessively hot during peak sun hours. However, if you travel outside of peak tourist season, you are also much more likely to have a quieter visit with fewer tour groups in destination cities.
TRAVEL TIP: Uzbekistan is still very worthwhile to visit during the winter months! If there is snow in the forecast, you will experience a winter wonderland unlike any in the world. Madrassas, minarets, and city streets covered in snow are more than Instagram-worthy.

Within many cities, the Yandex Go taxi app is a reliable and affordable option for quickly navigating between short distances.
If you’re visiting Tashkent, you can also get around the city by using the amazing metro system. Each one features unique Soviet-era styling. We think these are worth checking out!
In cafes and restaurants it is not expected to leave a tip as the service is usually automatically included in the bill. If you look at the bottom of the bill, you will often see a service fee of 10 -15% added to the total cost of your meal. When it comes to tipping drivers and guides, it is not expected but is appreciated if you feel they’ve provided good service. If you do tip a driver or guide, the amount is up to you and what you feel comfortable with considering your budget and their services.
Given that Uzbekistan is a little-known country in Central Asia and ends in -stan, we totally understand why this question is frequently asked! Based on recent studies, Uzbekistan ranks among some of the safest countries in the world!
We can tell you without a doubt that Uzbeks genuinely want you to have an amazing experience in their country! They will go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome since their culture highly values hospitality, especially to foreigners.
Additionally, tourist police stations have been placed in frequented tourist locations to further assist foreigners. As a bit of extra reassurance, our entire team lives in Uzbekistan and we feel safe navigating the country.
For our solo female travelers: Welcome! We’re happy to say that you have a place here in Uzbekistan. As most of our team is female, we understand the needs and preferences of solo female travelers and will keep those needs in mind as we plan your travel.
Women here typically wear loose, breathable clothing, especially in the summertime! You’ll see a lot of long, flowy skirts or wide-legged pants with matching tops. Men here can be seen wearing pants and button-ups or t-shirts. While Uzbeks dress more conservatively, it is not expected that tourists will dress the same so feel free to bring what makes you comfortable!
For spring and fall, we recommend wearing layers as it is often warmer in the day and cooler at night. And if you book a tour with Doppi from November to February, you’ll likely see snow and definitely freezing temps so dress warmly.
TRAVEL TIP: If you plan to visit a mosque or mausoleum, we suggest women bring along a lightweight headscarf or hat and men wear pants in order to be dressed appropriately for religious sites. But don’t worry! There are usually scarves and wraps available at these sites. Outside of these circumstances, covering is not expected.
The Uzbek som (UZS) is the official currency of Uzbekistan.
Withdrawing UZS from ATMs is the easiest and most convenient way to have cash for your trip! Be sure to notify your bank of the dates and country you are traveling to so that you don’t encounter any issues while using your card.
Visa is the most widely accepted foreign card in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is still largely a cash-based economy and card payments will not always be accepted, so we highly suggest having UZS on hand.
Exchanging USD or Euros into UZS is another option. There are currency exchange offices inside the airport that offer a good exchange rate. There are also options to exchange at any bank and the many participating Ipak Yoli Bank ATMs. Keep in mind that bills used for exchange should be crisp and in good condition. If you are exchanging money, we suggest that you bring $50/€50 bank notes or higher.
